Nantes are in dire need of some good news to avoid falling behind Sporting Gijon, who are playing in the French league, as they look to close in on second place in the league.

Nantes are 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Monaco with four games remaining, but their title hopes have been bolstered by an improved form and the return of two of their key players in Naby Keita and Thiago Silva.

The French champions had a disappointing season in 2015-16, finishing bottom of La Liga and relegated to the second tier.

They have taken five points from their last five matches and are hoping to build on their recent form in the coming weeks with the help of the return to Europe of three of their best players: Keita, Silva and the former Lyon forward Naby Meikle.

The former Monaco man has played a key role in Nantes’ resurgence since joining in the summer and he was rewarded for his contributions with his first start of this campaign, against Porto.

Keita, the team’s main goalscorer, has played well and had an impressive season in front of goal, scoring three goals in seven matches.

But it is the former Nantes striker who is the star of the show in the side, with the likes of the Brazilian, the Portuguese midfielder and the French striker having been instrumental in the Nantes revival.

The Brazilian, who scored nine goals in all competitions last season, is one of the few players who is not contracted with the French side.

The 25-year-old has joined the NPSL side for the start the new campaign after spending time on loan at PSG last season.

It will be a big test for the Natives in front the goal in front on Tuesday night, but Nantes could take comfort from the fact that they are already unbeaten in their last four matches.

Nante’s next game will be against Olympique Marseille on Wednesday evening (15:00 GMT) in the Amiens derby, and that will provide another boost for the side who are hoping for a breakthrough in their pursuit of their first European crown since 2003.

The game will also be streamed live on the NPD Sports app and can be seen live on BBC One, BBC Two, the BBC Sport website and BBC Sport app.
