Lakeville Soccer Club, the team that plays in the Ontario Premier League (OPL), was crowned the #1 Soccer Club in Canada on Thursday night, beating out St. Patrick’s Athletic, who finished second.
The club played its first game in the new league on Friday, April 14, and was named to the OPLs top five for the first time.
The St. Patricks win was the most impressive of the week, as the team won two games in a row and defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 in a best-of-three series.
The winning goal came in the 55th minute.
The #2 seed team, which played host to the Vancouver team in the first match, scored a late equalizer in the 76th minute to push the win to 3-1.
The win marked the second consecutive game the team has scored twice in a single game.
St. Patrick has been undefeated in its first four games.
The club also defeated the University of Manitoba Thunderbirds 2-1 on Wednesday.
