The New York Times reports that the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) is considering making the city a new hot spot for soccer clubs.
A new report from USA Today claims the New York clubs could get their own version of the barbecue sauce, and they’ll use it to cook their own food.
According to the USA Today article, the New Yorkers will get their sauce from a New York-based company called New York Barbecue, which produces the product for both the USSF and Major League Soccer.
The article notes that the New Orleans Saints, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City SC, and other clubs have made barbecue sauces before, but they’ve never used it for the club’s own products.
“There’s been a few attempts to create a New Orleans-style barbecue sauce in the past, but no other teams in the country have tried to make the sauce themselves,” the article reads.
“With the United Soccer Leagues and MLS, there are a lot of opportunities to bring in a New Yorker-style sauce to compete with their other products.”
The New Yorkers have been making the sauce since 2010, when they won the Supporters’ Shield for their efforts in the CONCACAF Champions League.
They’re currently the only club in Major League Baseball to use the sauce, with the New England Patriots using it on the club logo.
