Kokomo, N.Y. — In a tight race for the U.s.
Open title, Kokomo’s soccer team lost a late goal to a Westside team from Louisville.
The Kokomo City Club beat Louisville FC 1-0 in the third round of the 2017 U.A. Soccer Open in Louisville, Ky.
The victory came after Kokomo had scored twice in the first half to take the lead, and the match was tied at 2-2.
The game, which ended 0-2, began with a free kick that Louisville defender Kevin Lai grabbed, then Kokomo goalkeeper Zach McPherson had to backpedal to try to clear it off the line.
The ball landed in the net, and it was a goal that gave Kokomo its first lead of the match, 1-1, at halftime.
The goal came with 10 minutes left.
But Louisville’s Patrick Bivens, who was on loan to Kokomo from Louisville United, scored in the 86th minute to push the lead to 4-2 on a goal from goalkeeper Brandon Williams.
Kokomo won the match 3-2 and advances to the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
