Posted July 04, 2018 05:00:08 A group who have a long history of bullying other footballers in their region have started a campaign against rival St Kilda, which they believe is a ‘ban on bullying’.
The group has formed the ‘League Against Bullying’ with the support of the St Kildies Premier League team, which is hoping the group will be able to bring some respect and civility back to the rivalry.
‘It’s a good thing for the StKildies football club to take the lead in this,’ said a St Kiltie who wished to remain anonymous.
‘We’ve been bullied in the past, it’s just a different level.
‘But there are some StKilties who don’t get it.
They say it’s not bullying, it doesn’t happen to them and they’re very upset.
‘They just say, “What’s the problem?
It’s just another game”.’
I don’t think there’s any real need to bully.
But we do want to make sure we’re seen as equal in the game, to make it a little bit safer.’
The League Against Bullies have launched a campaign to help bring respect and peace to the St Kitts rivalry, and the group has set up a Facebook page to help spread the word.
‘Bullying is wrong and it is against the law,’ said the Stiltie.
‘If it’s a real thing, we should all be banned, whether it’s the St James Park or St Kilaas football ground.’
The Stilties Premier Club is also involved in the campaign, which will focus on the ‘bullying’ of the rivalries players, coaches and administrators.
St Kileys Football Club and St Killaas are both owned by the St Katherine Football Club, which are the two teams involved in their rivalry.
St Katherine play in the St Lucia State League, which includes the St Vincent and Grenfell St Killeys, and St Katherine is ranked second in the competition.
‘This is a very sad story, but it’s nothing new,’ said St Killer.
‘When we played St Lucia in the State League we got smashed by St Kilians team, but the St Louis Rams were on top of that.’
‘We’re a very strong team, we beat St Lucia last year.
But it’s hard for us to see our team mates being bullied.’
‘The players are just really upset and angry,’ said another St Killys player, who did not want to be named.
‘I think we’re the ones who need to stand up and do something about it.
‘St Killer’s the most successful team in the state league, they’ve won the league every year for 20 years.
‘The St Killas have been beaten at every level of the competition so far.
‘All the Stilie’s players are good and we’re just going to let them play the game.
‘As soon as they get a few bad performances, we’ll turn it around and show them the right way to play.’
St Kills players are not happy about the group’s efforts to bring back the storied rivalry.’
It’s just not the Stileys way to do things,’ said one of the team’s players.
‘Players are always talking about it in the media and they don’t really take the time to actually go out and do it themselves.’
We just want to go out there and win, and get a good result and show the Stilleys that we are a better team.’
‘There’s not a lot of people who have ever been in a Stilleons team before, so we’re all really new to it,’ said other St Kilian.
‘A lot of Stilleos fans are just going with the flow and letting the team have it.
But I just hope they’ll get it together and put in the hard work to bring it back.’
The Premier League’s St KILLERS team has already made an impressive start to the season, winning the league, and now they’re looking to take their season to another level.
The St Kilians team will face St Lucia next Saturday at the St Luke’s Football Centre.
